
Marit Bouwmeester is a worldly Frisian who grew up on the water. She is the Netherlands’ most successful sailor and has been at the top for many years. She is the first to win an Olympic medal for the Netherlands in a sailing boat since 80 years. Her career has been awarded the Knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau. “I don’t believe in talent. I believe in working hard. Getting better every day. Challenging myself and learning continuously.” Marit spent 300 days a year abroad for 4 years in preparation for the 2012 Games, where she eventually won silver. Growing into an independent athlete, she is a multiple world champion and won gold at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. She is the Netherlands’ most successful sailor and the first Dutch sailor ever to win gold.
