The aim of this session is to share experience and vision of private sector on how to deal with water scarcity risks, in the right context, at the local level. We want to share how companies deal with the fact that the value of water differs per region and per user in a catchment? Best practices examples will be shared that illustrate their different approach.

Jan-Willem is Global Manager Sustainable Development & Stakeholder Engagement. He has been closely involved in the development and launch of HEINEKEN’s 2030 sustainability strategy, ‘Brew a Better World’ and is responsible for stakeholder engagement, with a specific eye for investors and NGOs. Jan-Willem also has extensive experience in Water Stewardship and Sustainability Reporting. He has degrees in Organisational Anthropology and Communications.

Hans-Ulrich Buchholz is an expert in Environmental Protection, with a focus on waste water, water resources, and biodiversity, working at L’Oréal corporate QEHS (Quality, Environment, Health and Safety) department of Operations. His scope is water and waste water management of L’Oréal’s Operations worldwide in order to evaluate and to reduce the impact of the industrial activities, especially on local water resources and biodiversity. He is focused on the development of strategies and projects that are combining business, economic and environmental protection in a holistic manner. Hans-Ulrich Buchholz started his +25 year career with engineering and international project management of water treatment for municipalities and industry. This was followed by key account responsibility for commercial and technical development and the lead of environmental projects in the sector of the Pulp & Paper/ chemical industry, within the SUEZ group.
Global Water Program Leader

Vetrivel Dhagumudi works as a Global Program Leader at Kimberly-Clark Corporation. As a program leader he manages the enterprise-wide water reduction goals, through which fresh water usage has been reduced by 13 billion gallons to date and WaterLoupe, an interactive water management tool along with Deltares which allows users to assess water risk for an entire watershed as well as for a specific sector and sub-group over 30 years, has been developed. He has also developed a model to establish context based water targets for sites located in high water stress regions. Vetri also provides leadership across the enterprise and serves as the central point of contact for any and all interfaces on the subject of water & wastewater. During his tenure, Vetri led the organization to formulate long-term sustainability goals for water & solid waste management and high-level strategy execution to support them. Vetri has a Master’s degree in Environmental Resource Engineering and has also written and published papers on water reuse for industrial applications at various conferences.
Hydrogeologist and region coordinator for Europe
Sophie Vermooten (Deltares) is a hydrogeologist with 18 years of experience in groundwater related projects related to fresh water supply or remediation of contaminated sites in the Netherlands and abroad. She has worked in different countries like China, Syria, Yemen, Italy, Kuwait, Tunisia, South Africa, Morocco, Madagascar and Australia A key initiative she is leading since 2016 is the development of the WaterLOUPE approach, in cooperation with the private sector. WaterLOUPE supports multi-actor decision-making and collaborative action for water stewardship in water stressed basins with the aim to reduce the impact of water scarcity. She is the Deltares region manager for Europe, coordinating the Deltares' business development related to specialised consultancy and R&D in that region. At Water Europe she was recently appointed as one of the members of the Policy Advisory Committee, representing the European research institutes.
